Open terminal and run the following commands
1.sudo add-apt-repository “deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner”
2.sudo apt-get update
3.sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
4.java -version (to check whether the JRE is installed properly)
My machine version
java version "1.6.0_20"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode)
Open Firefox and type about:plugins - shows plug-in details!
